A record number of just under 1 million copies of the fifth edition of the DAB digital radio magazine have been printed by Digital One, the national commercial digital radio network operator.

The growing interest in digital radio technology coupled with high consumer demand for in-depth information has driven this extensive print run, which coincides with the company celebrating its fifth birthday.

According to Digital One?s Operations Manager, Dawn Banks, ?The aim of the magazine is to let people know about the new stations you get with a DAB digital radio. Alongside programme listings, there?s mix of longer articles, cartoons and competitions. For retailers, the magazine is a handy tool to provide information for shoppers and sell more DAB digital radios in the run up to Christmas.?

A highlight of the magazine is an interview with Trevor Baylis OBE, inventor of the clockwork radio. He recounts his childhood memories of experimenting with a cat?s whisker wireless and a valve-driven radiogramme. These days, Trevor has been converted to DAB digital radio, and is confident that it won?t be long before reduced power consumption will give rise to clockwork digital radios.

Real-life experiences of DAB digital radio listeners are given a humourous twist in a feature illustrated by award-winning cartoonist Tony Husband. Taking a break from his usual work for The Times, The Express and Private Eye, he?s turned his attention to stories from owners who have used their digital radios in amusing ways, or noticed that they don?t quite fit the expected buyer profile for a certain type of radio.

The magazine also carries the usual mix of nuggets and programme listings for the national commercial DAB digital radio stations, along with readers? letters and a review of a recently launched mini hifi product.

Direct mail copies of the magazine can be requested by visiting Alternatively they can be picked up from most electrical retailers including John Lewis, Comet, Currys, Dixons, House of Fraser, Sevenoaks Sound and Vision, Richer Sounds, and independent hi-fi stores.

Retailers wishing to offer the free magazines to their customers should contact Digital One directly to arrange for bulk copies to be provided to them free of charge.
