SCOTS singing diva Lulu was honoured for her contribution to music at the Radio Forth Awards.

The Radio Forth Awards, in conjunction with Black Horse Finance, not only honour the UK?s biggest music stars but pay tribute to a host of local heroes who have excelled themselves in community work, sport, education, tourism and the workplace.

The Glaswegian dynamo, now in her fifth chart topping decade and who released her debut single Shout in 1964, won the FORTH2 Music Recognition Award for her massive contribution to the recording industry.

The evergreen star received her prize from born again crooner Tony Christie who opened the glittering ceremony with his massive hit Amarillo.

Lulu and Tony Christie, standard bearers of the UK music industry at the popular awards, were well on the road to international success before other award winners Liberty X and Daniel Bedingfield were born.

After accepting the Radio Forth Best Performance Award with Heritage Portfolio, Liberty X performed their hit Just a Little Bit and this year?s Children in Need single, Night to Remember. Also present at the awards at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, were Savage Garden?s Darren Hayes who performed his latest hit So Beautiful and Simon Webbe of Blue fame who sang his number four hit No Worries.

Community heroes who received awards included Best Teacher winner, Douglas Bruton of Dalkeith High, Midlothian, and children?s charity fundraiser Morag Goulden, who won the Radio Forth Help a Child Appeal Award.

Scots golfing prospect, Lloyd Saltman, who put in a dazzling performance to win the Silver Medal at The Open in St Andrews earlier this year, won the FORTH2 Contribution to Sport Award in conjunction with Westwoods Health Club. Edinburgh University student, part-time piper and wannabe club DJ, Richard Davie, won the Tom Wilson Award, named in memory of the late Radio Forth presenter, and received a ?1000 grant to be used to further his career in the music industry.

Radio Forth?s managing director, Adam Findlay, paid tribute to all the winners.

He said: ?Now in their third year, the Radio Forth Awards are firmly established as a great platform to pay tribute to superb performers like Lulu, Liberty X and Daniel Bedingfield who have given us great pleasure over the years and will continue to do so.

?But it is just as important to honour those people who work unstintingly and over and above the call of duty to make our communities better places. ?Our awards highlight the excellent work that is going on in education, tourism, sport and local communities throughout Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife and it is our privilege to celebrate those achievements.

Patrick Campbell, Black Horse Finance Head of Marketing said: ?We are delighted to once again support these awards as they mirror perfectly our company?s commitment to local communities across Scotland. ?It is a pleasure to be able to recognise those who perform all sorts of heroic work on behalf of others without seeking reward or recognition.?
