BBC Radio 1 has announced a unique partnership with BBC 1Xtra, MTV and Durex to launch BareAll06 – a safer sex campaign in the form of an online survey aimed at finding out what the nation’s youth really think about sexual health.

BareAll06 marks the first time the three youth brands have teamed up to examine and highlight an important youth issue. Each presenter will host a special edition of Radio 1’s Sunday Surgery phone-in show alongside Dr Mark Hamilton.

During Radio 1’s week-long promotion of Bareall06, the station will run on-air features, trails, news content plus interactive content online.

Other DJs such as Colin Murray and Zane Lowe will be offering listeners the chance to get hold of free BareAll06 condoms, meanwhile Jo Whiley and Scott Mills will offer listeners the chance to win an exclusive Safer Sex Sack containing condoms, a limited edition condom holder, T-shirt with condom pocket and other safer sex goodies.

BareAll06 will ask young people who are most at risk about why safer sex messages are not getting through to them, and what they would need to be better informed about safer sex.

Sam Steele, Radio 1’s exec producer of Speech and Campaigns, says: “I am delighted that Radio 1 will partner with 1Xtra, MTV and Durex to talk to young people about this important subject.

“Young people aren’t engaging in safer sex messages and, as a nation, we find it difficult to talk openly and frankly about sex and sexual health.

“BareAll06 is all about finding out why this is and making steps towards solving this problem. I’m looking forward to finding out the results!”

Tim Westwood added: “I feel proud to be involved in BareAll06, young people need to be aware of the facts and stay safe.

“We are going to be talking about some big things like sexual health, STIs, no sexual stone will be left unturned.”

Martyn Ward, Managing Director of Durex UK, says: “Durex will be giving half a million condoms to the BareAll06 campaign, these will be distributed at festivals and through listener giveaways during the summer.

“This supports our overall, ongoing commitment to improving the sexual health of the nation.

“Condoms are the only form of contraception to protect against STIs and unplanned pregnancies and by partnering with organisations with such kudos as Radio 1, 1Xtra and MTV, we’re sure that we’ll hit the right audiences throughout the length of the campaign.”
