A nurse at Clatterbridge Hospital in Wirral has been named the favourite of patients by listeners to the hospital?s radio station ? Radio Clatterbridge. Zoe Jones, a staff nurse from the Stroke Rehabilitation Ward, was voted by her patients as the member of staff who has gone out of her way most to make their stay in hospital that little bit easier.

In their nominations, patients described Zoe as “very helpful” and “kindness personified”. She was surprised on the wards with flowers and a certificate by Radio City 96.7 personality Pete Price.

Radio Clatterbridge Chairman, Mike Eveleigh, said: “Patients told us that Zoe’s kind and caring nature shines through and her sense of humour and spirit lifts the whole of the ward. “She is a fantastic ambassador for the nursing profession and Clatterbridge Hospital and an extremely worthy winner of the Radio Clatterbridge Staff Achievement Award.”

Zoe qualified as a nurse last year after doing her training at Wirral Hospital NHS Trust. She is also part of the nursing bank so works shifts on other wards and at Arrowe Park Hospital. Her Ward Sister, Gill Ayriss, praised Zoe?s dedication to her patients: ?She?s a delight to work with and really does lift spirits on the ward.

?It is natural for stroke patients to feel frustrated or anxious. Zoe helps her patients to focus on what they want to achieve and stay positive, helping them make progress in getting on with their lives.? This is the seventh Radio Clatterbridge staff achievement award. It began in 1998 as a way of the station rewarding the hard work of members of staff at the hospital. The Radio Clatterbridge team visits wards every week to gather song requests and at the same time collect award nominations.

Pete Price, Radio City 96.7 presenter, said: “Going into hospital can be a nerve-wracking and traumatic experience. Nursing staff such as Zoe do an amazing job in making it a much more bearable experience.

“It is a clich? that all nurses are angels – but Zoe and her colleagues are truly special people who do fantastic work and make a real difference to the lives of so many people.”
