Radio Academy appoints Director

Former Managing Director of Pop for Emap and Radio 1 Producer Trevor Dann has been appointed as Director of the Radio Academy.

He replaces John Bradford who retires in the Autumn after ten years in the job. As part of his new role, Trevor will Chair the Radio Festival for 2007.

Trevor Dann has worked in the radio industry for thirty years. He started as a news reporter on BBC Radio Nottingham. He was a producer on Radio 1 and became the station?s Head of Production in the late 90?s. He was at Emap between 2000 and 2002 where he invented the Smash Hits Chart. He is now a media consultant advising companies on radio production including podcasting. He broadcasts regularly on Classic Gold and writes for a variety of music journals and newspapers. His biography of singer-songwriter, Nick Drake, was published earlier this year.

Announcing the appointment, the Chair of the Radio Academy, Helen Boaden, said :

?Trevor is the perfect person to take on this role at such a critical time for the industry. His passion and commitment to quality radio are second to none and he understands the need to embrace change and the new opportunities offered by the digital revolution. I am absolutely confident that he will ensure that the Academy remains relevant and dynamic for a new generation?.

Trevor Dann said : ?The Radio Academy plays a vital role in our industry and it?s a great honour to be asked to lead it at such an exciting time for UK radio?.

Trevor Dann will take up his appointment in October.
