The UK has finally joined the JACK fm bandwagon with the new licence for Oxford going to Absolute Radio.

Five companies applied for the licence, meaning Ofcom had to decide between Absolute, GCap, CN, Laser and TLRC.

JACK fm is wholly-owned by Absolute Radio International Limited. It will provide Oxford and South Oxfordshire's variety music station, particularly appealing to 35-54 adults, and offer a generally music-intensive theme, with regular news and information which is locally relevant.

JACK fm will deliver a completely new and different emphasis on listener-focus, with less clutter and a fresh compelling local presentation style with attitude.

JACK fm will also welcome back to Oxfordshire the legendary and former FOX FM breakfast presenter PHIL ANGELL, who will present a weekly music and entertainment programme.

In a recent poll on, JACK fm came joint favourite to win the licence, along with CN Group's More FM application. Ofcom advertised the licence on March 10th 2006 and by a closing date of June 9th had five applications.

JACK fm will commence broadcasting within 6 months.
