Many of the local radio stations operated by the BBC around the UK have reported an increase in listeners with the latest RAJAR results.

Amongst the stations with an increase in audience are Radio Oxford, Cornwall, Derby, Lancashire, and Gloucestershire.

BBC Radio Gloucestershire has gained 16,000 extra listeners over the last year and now has an average weekly audience of 94,000. Mark Hurrell, Managing Editor, Radio Gloucestershire, says: "We are absolutely thrilled that our audience figures are up once again and with 94,000 tuning in each week that's the highest total for the last three years.

BBC Radio Lancashire added weekly reach from 20 per-cent to 22 per-cent, whilst BBC Radio Derby added an extra 17,000 listeners each week.

Year-on-year BBC Radio Cornwall has attracted 6,000 new listeners taking their share to a massive 37 per-cent. Daphne Skinnard, Assistant Managing Editor, says: "We've been very busy this year traveling the length and breadth of Cornwall to meet our audience in their communities and will continue to do this."

The latest audience figures from Rajar also show that BBC Radio Oxford has gained 22,000 new listeners and increased its reach across the region. Delighted with the news, Steve Taschini, Executive Editor, Radio Oxford, commented: "Hot on the heels of great TV audience figures, the latest Rajar results show we've achieved our third ever highest result in terms of reach across the region.

"This is a great result which builds on the excellent progress we've made in the last 12 months, and a solid platform for more growth."
