BBC Norfolk scares yobs away

Radio Norfolk's being used to get rid of gangs of teenagers who loiter outside their studios.

A loudspeaker's been put up outside the BBC's eastern regional HQ at The Forum in Norwich.

The Press Association reports that corporation staff were asked for suggestions of songs that they thought would drive the noisy youths away, and bosses decided the music they would least like to hear would be their own output from Radio Norfolk.

A BBC source told PA: "An email went round asking for suggestions of what music could be played through the speaker to get these kids to go away. We were really surprised they thought Radio Norfolk would be the most effective."

A spokeswoman for the Beeb said: "We've installed a speaker outside the BBC reception and are broadcasting BBC Radio Norfolk on it during the day to people passing by. We're pleased if it's introducing a new generation of listeners to the station."
