GaydarRadio is set to mark World AIDS Day on Friday, December 1 with a fund-raising outside broadcast special at selected venues across London which aims to boost charity funds, stop the spread of HIV and help end prejudice.

The digital station will broadcast the marathon between 7am and midnight.

The red ribbon digital radiothon opens with Breakfast@Balans in the heart of London’s Soho from 7am to 11am and then moves to Comptons from 11am to 6pm. Club Nation then winds up the event with a night of music from Bar Code in Vauxhall from 6pm to midnight.

“We are dedicating our entire output to the HIV cause on this important day. Our aim is to encourage listeners to donate to the HIV/AIDS charity of their choice, remind people about safe sex and to tackle the stigma that still surrounds HIV,” said Programme Controller Robin Crowley.

A web page on the GaydarRadio website will direct listeners to donate to the HIV charity of their choice, with all the featured charities taking part in the radio appeal across the day. In addition there will be vox pops with gay men about safe sex issues and a look at how other organizations are marking World AIDS Day.

The music will also be punctuated by a series of personal testimonials from people with HIV talking about safe sex and being positive and the stories of negative partners talking about going out with an HIV positive partner.
