A Listener to BBC Radio Leeds is set to present her own programme on the station after the BBC's Search for a Star contest took place and promised a slot for the winner. Nadine Hill, a Virtual Assistant from Wakefield, has a minute to explain why she should be the chosen one.

Managing Editor Phil Roberts invited 17 applicants to an evening at the BBC to meet presenters, have a look around the studios, and record "a minute to win it", in which they had to sell themselves, and explain why they should win.

Phil selected three contestants to make it through to the next round, and three wild cards. Listeners to Radio Leeds were then invited to vote for their favourite presenter — Nadine was the winner, with 37 per cent of the votes.

Phil said: "BBC Radio Leeds is committed to encouraging and finding new talent in West Yorkshire. Nadine is our listener's choice for what I'm sure will be a perfect Christmas show."

Nadine said: "I am absolutely delighted to have won. I hope that listeners of West Yorkshire will really relax and enjoy the show when I encourage everyone to slow down and savour the day this Christmas, and I can’t wait to be on air!"
