Town and Country Broadcasting stations 97.1 Radio Carmarthenshire and 97.5 Scarlet FM have reported their first set of audience figures. With 34,000 listeners and a 28% weekly audience reach between them, the stations have more listeners than any other service in the county.
Regional Programme Controller, Andy Griffiths said: “In a marketplace that includes BBC National Services and established commercial services including The Wave, Swansea Sound and Real Radio — it’s fantastic to see Radio Carmarthenshire and Scarlet FM confirmed as the number one listening choice across the County.”
Radio Pembrokeshire has an impressive weekly reach of 55% and a mighty 37.1% market share of all listening in the county, making it one of the top performing stations in the UK.
Town and Country Broadcasting’s Chairman Geraint Talfan Davies said: “Our stations are a true Welsh success story. These audience figures are a credit to our staff and a proof that commercial radio can score against any opposition by being truly local and relevant for its listeners.”
He added: “The success of our stations also makes them a vital asset for local economies across South and West Wales. By offering local businesses cost effective access to large and attractive audiences we are contributing, in a significant manner, to the Welsh economy”.
Town and Country Broadcasting launched a new station for the region, 102.1 Swansea Bay Radio, in November 2006 and which will report its first audience figures in 2008. The company has also submitted applications for the soon-to-be awarded local licence for Monmouthshire/Herefordshire and also the second South Wales regional radio service.
