Arsenal legend and former England international Ian Wright is joining talkSPORT to present the station’s drivetime show. He replaces Rodney Marsh who left the station in October last year. Ian will co-host the show with Adrian Durham.

After hanging up his boots in 2000, Wright quickly established himself as one of the nation’s favourite TV presenters fronting shows like Friday Nights All Wright, Friends Like These and Guinness World Records as well as acting as a team captain on They Think It’s All Over. All this, of course, was alongside his work as a respected and often outspoken TV pundit.

Programme Director Bill Ridley said: “We are really excited to have Ian on board at talkSPORT. He is very passionate about the game and will be given free rein to air his views on the important issues that football faces in this country.

“He joins a really strong team of ex-footballer presenters such as Alan Brazil and Andy Townsend — and I know he will build up a huge following in his own right right right…”

talkSPORT Chief Executive Scott Taunton said: “The signing of Ian Wright is an exciting addition to our presenter line-up and is yet another example of our ongoing investment in talkSPORT.

“That investment includes our unparalleled coverage of the World Cup in 2006, our continuing coverage of the Champions League with commentaries as well as winning live and exclusive commentary rights to Premiership games on Saturday afternoons for the next three seasons.”

As a footballer, Wright had few equals. In an Arsenal shirt he was a tour de force, scoring 184 goals in 285 appearances which made him the Gunners all-time leading goal scorer. He scored nine goals for England in his 31 appearances for his country.

Following his retirement from the game, Wright was awarded an MBE for his services to football. He has fought to champion English youth players and the academy system, believing that a strong Premiership and national side are reliant on a ‘grass roots’ system that works.

As part of the deal, Wright will also be starring in his own podcast-exclusive talkSPORT shows, which will be available on www.talksport.net
