Bridgwater’s BCR-fm has changed its name at the start of what’s promised to be a fresh new start for the radio station by owners Laser Broadcasting. The station was renamed as QuayWest 107.4 this morning. The station launched, as BCR, in July 2001, and the man who planned and created the original idea, Dave Englefield, has been part of the on-air team ever since.
He is now acting station manager and is looking forward to the changes that lie ahead: “It is really exciting to see my original idea grow and develop,” he told RadioToday.co.uk. “We have been working on our music format to bring it in line with what people tell us they want, and we are putting even greater emphasis on the local content.”
Stuart Linnell, Operations Director of Laser Broadcasting added, “It makes sense to us from a business perspective to utilise the strengths of both the stations we own in Somerset – QuayWest 107.4 as it will now be in Bridgwater and district, and the existing QuayWest 102.4 in Minehead.
“Above that, however, are the needs and requirements of our audience. We are putting into practice what research has told us they are looking for and we will be applying more resources, behind the scenes, over the coming months to make sure we can deliver the best possible local station for local people.”
Ofcom granted Laser Broadcasting permission to re-brand the station late last year, and the station will now be known, along with its sister station in West Somerset as Quaywest 102.4, 100.8 and 107.4.
