Internet Radio kid dreams on

Following on from various stories which highlights how a 15-year-old school boy is generating 80,000 listeners to his internet radio show, some radio professionals have taken a deeper look into the claim, and worked out that the boy is nothing more than a fantasist.

James Cridland has written an excellent article on his blog, which, quite frankly explains the whole situation rather well.

The headlines told us: [i]"A 15-YEAR-OLD schoolboy has grown an internet radio station run from his father’s garden shed into a company that claims 250,000 listeners and has 40 people working for it. […] The peak slot is drive-time between 4pm and 7pm, which Dunlop says averages 80,000 listeners. He is projecting turnover of more than £1m in his first year of trading, most of which will be profit."[/i]

The publicity started in the Glasgow Daily Record, followed up by The Times newspaper, and on to BBC Radio Five Live, who, quite frankly, should have known better. Cridland wants to know: "why did journalists swallow this false story?" And so do we.
