It's the award ceremony that brings together people from all corners of the radio industry, from the BBC to commercial, and Internet podcasts to content providers. The Sony Radio Academy Awards are celebrating 25 years, and they're taking place in London tonight.

Some of those lucky enough to be nominated will be attending, hoping to collect a gong. The floor will also be home to the heads of departments and bosses of radio groups, plus some of the 112 judges who have used their years of experience to bring smiles – and tears – to those around them.

This year marks 25 years of the awards and nominations were announced on March 27th. The BBC received 87 nominations compared with 47 for commercial radio. The Beeb claimed all the entries in four of the categories, including Community and Comedy Awards, whilst commercial radio shone in the Competition Award with 4 out of 5 nominations, and 2 out of 3 for Digital Terrestrial Station of the Year.

None of the nominations for the new Internet Programme Award category went to radio stations. The Times newspaper gained two, whilst podcasts by Wise Buddah, All Out Productions and VIPonAIR took the rest.

The official webcast takes place at , with [link=]covering the event[/link] with our first-ever Twitter-Cast, plus providing audio and photos of the event into the night.
