Several Northwest radio presenters and station staff are getting ready to go head to head against each other in this weekend's Great Manchester Run. Amongst those represented are Key 103, Galaxy, Smooth, Wire FM and XFM Manchester. Three former Century NW breakfast jocks will compete against each other too – Darren Proctor, Tony Horne and Andy Crane.

Galaxy Manchester's daytime line-up of Wes, Ant Payne, Carl Spencer and Rob Ellis will all run, each with team of listeners – the slowest team round the 10k run will get a forfeit. Galaxy are doing it to raise money for The New Children's Hospital Appeal. BBC Radio Manchester News Editor Mark Elliott and producers Hayley Cavill, Euan Doak and Rebecca Crabtree are all running too.

The region's breakfast shows normally compete for listeners – on Sunday they'll be running against each other. Galaxy's Wes, Key 103's Mike Toolan, XFM's Jason Manford, Wire FM's Dominic Walker and Smooth Radio breakfast show producer Simon Lowe will be doing the course, alongside celebrities including former Dr Who actor Christopher Ecclestone, boxer Amir Khan, various actors and actresses from Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, and Dick off of 'Dick & Dom'.

Wire FM breakfast presenter [link=http://www.justgiving.com/dominicrunsmanchester]Dominic Walker[/link] is running the race in aid of a Warrington charity that he is a patron of, The Moore Foundation. Dominic told us: "I want to raise as much money for Cancer Research UK as possible to stop other families having to go through the same heartache we all faced when my granddad died."

Galaxy drivetime presenter Rob Ellis told RadioToday.co.uk: "I'm doing the Manchester Run because the place came with free gym membership. I've saved about £40 a month!!!! In truth though, all radio presenters should be forced to do stuff like this every year! It's
liberating! Especially as most of us are self obsessed, ego maniacs! I'm doing it for the kids man! The New Childrens Hospital Appeal!"

Smooth Producer [link=http://www.justgiving.com/producersimon]Simon[/link] is doing it in aid of the station's adopted charity, MedEquip4Kids and told RadioToday.co.uk: "I thought it would be a good way of raising cash for charity and an even easier way to perv over all the fit men in shorts. That's the best way to do the run – pick out a runner and chase them – works wonders and you can do the run a lot faster!"

Key 103 and Magic 1152 are also supporting the Great Manchester Run with hundreds of people doing it to raise money for their charity Manchester Kids. The station's Ditchy and Darren Proctor are set to join them and Toolan.
