Jazz FM comes swinging back

Less than a month after its management buyout, Jazz FM has posted its first set of RAJAR figures. The former TLRC station was sold for a £1 to its former chairman Richard Wheatly in April.

From October 2008 through to March this year the station had been operating at a loss of £733,000. But new figures suggest it might be on the bounce with 408,000 listeners tuning in per week for an average of four hours.
The station returned to the airwaves on 6 October last year broadcasting on DAB, online and on digital TV.
Chairman Richard Wheatly said: “These numbers are a vindication of the months of hard work the whole team have put into creating a new Jazz FM for the digital generation. For a niche station to achieve a first set of audience figures like this in today’s fragmented radio market is extraordinary.”
