Pennine FM has finally shaken off its chequered past and looks set to meet Ofcom’s Format obligations.
The media regulator had found the station to be in breach of its Format, though, due to Pennine FM’s ongoing financial problems had held off on its ruling until the new licencees could fully implement their new schedule.
In June this year, Ofcom monitored the station and found that the original breaches of its licence had been rectified – a local agenda, live presenters, a wide range of music – though, the station was still lacking in its commitment to Asian output, a matter that the new owners insist will be quickly met. In its ruling, Ofcom found that it was ‘not appropriate to take any further regulatory action’.
Quick history: Pennine Radio launched in 1975 and re-branded as The Pulse of West Yorkshire in 1991. In 2008, The New Pennine FM was born from the former TLRC station Home 107.9, which originally launched as Huddersfield FM in 1999.
