Radio Radio in the North East is attempting to tackle the problem of childhood obesity in the region.

The first ever ‘Kids out for Summer’ event, billed as the biggest sports day the North East has ever seen, was sponsored by the Department of Health’s ‘Change4Life’ programme on Wednesday 1st July with schools from all over the region.
In total 40 schools took part, all simultaneously hosting their own events, with many different activities taking place.
Real Radio delivered information packs to schools ahead of the event which included a starter kit with Frisbees, boomerangs, footballs and hula hoops. Every child who took part also received a certificate for doing so.
Real Radio presenters, including the football Legends, were all out and about in the North East, visiting participating schools, getting involved in the fun and games and reporting back to the station, with regular updates.
Jon Kirby, Head of Presentation for Real Radio North East said, “’Kids out for Summer,’ was a massive undertaking, but one that everyone at the station embraced and got behind 100 per cent and I’m extremely proud of all involved who helped make it happen."
