John Perkins, the long standing Managing Director of commercial radio news provider IRN, is to step down from the post at the end of November.
John – who told the IRN Board of his intention to retire last year – has been involved with commercial radio since its inception in the early 70s and has been MD of IRN for 20 years.

He joined Radio City in Liverpool as a reporter in 1974 and a year later joined LBC as a political reporter where he also presented the first “rolling news" programme on UK radio. He then moved to IRN where he was Industrial Editor and Home Affairs Editor.
In 1982 he was appointed Managing Editor of LBC/IRN and Managing Director of IRN in 1989.
John said: “I am proud of IRN’s achievements over the years. It is now taken by over 300 radio stations in the UK with a combined audience of over 30 Million listeners.”
IRN Chairman Terry Smith added: “IRN has been one of the success stories of commercial radio in the UK and is arguably one of the most successful radio news agencies in the world."
John’s successor will be Tim Molloy who is currently IRN’s Business Development Director. He will take up the post on December 1.
