Five more community radio stations have been granted permission to broadcast for a five year period by Ofcom.

In the latest round, the regulator also rejected a further eight applications in the south-east of England for various reasons.

It's congratulations to:

* SFM (Sittingbourne, Kent)
* Gateway FM (Basildon, Essex)
* Insanity (Egham, Surrey)
* Kane FM (Guildford, Surrey)
* The Vibe (Watford)

and commiserations to:

* Panjabi Awaz, Slough
* Radio Wey, Chertsey, Surrey
* Woking Community Radio (WCR), Woking, Surrey
* Sut FM, Sutton, Surrey
* Radio One Sound, Southall, Middlesex
* Radio Voz de Portugal, Vauxhall, London
* Radio Reality, Hendon, London
* Focus Radio, Enfield, Middlesex

Ofcom did not give a reason for not awarding a licence to the groups above, but did say the last two, Radio Reality and Focus Radio were rejected simply because of lack of suitable FM frequency.

SFM's Chairman and Managing Director Terence Flynn, told RadioToday.co.uk: “ we are delighted with Ofcom’s decision and are optimistic that SFM will prove to be a catalyst for the encouragement and development of the town’s latent potential”.
