KMFM's head of radio Steve Fountain and Planet Rock owner Malcolm Bluemel have joined the RadioCentre board.

The pair were elected by RadioCentre members as part of a new process designed to strengthen representation and improve accountability.

Andrew Harrison, chief executive of RadioCentre said: “I’m delighted to welcome both Malcolm and Steve to the Board – I’ve no doubt they will offer valuable input on behalf of digital stations and smaller station members respectively to ensure that the voice of all our members is heard at the highest level. The fact that they were nominated by their peers also provides them with a mandate to speak on behalf of these small but vitally important parts of our industry.”

Malcolm Bluemel, owner of the national digital service Planet Rock said: “As we move towards a digital future for radio, it is crucial that digital only stations have a voice – equally, there is a lot of valuable input that we, as digital services can share with the rest of the industry and I’m looking forward to working with the Board on all these issues.”

Steve Fountain, group head of radio at the KM Group said: “I’m looking forward to serving some of the smaller RadioCentre members on the Board to ensure their voice is heard. Radio is a small sector and if we want to influence real change with the outside world, it is always better to do it with one voice.”
