Pure chaos at Absolute Radio

Absolute Radio's latest London stunt meant traffic was brought to a standstill at the radio station's HQ in Golden Square.

The national station was giving away free Pure Highway in-car DAB radios to the first 100 vans which turned up at 9am on Friday.

Breakfast presenter Christian O’Connell said: “Vans started arriving before 7am and within minutes we were surrounded. I’ve never seen so many people so happy to be sat in a queue and the atmosphere was fantastic. Thankfully the traffic wardens must have been on their morning tea break at the time!”

Among the people driving round Golden Square to win radios worth £79.99 each, were Pimlico Plumbers who sent six teams down as soon as they heard the competition announced on Absolute Radio. Darren Campion of Stratford Fine Foods said: “I’ve been here since six this morning” and Hayley of Medlock’s Electrical said “I had a pre-historic cassette player till now!”.

Absolute Radio is the only radio station to hit the 50 per cent digital listening penetration target set out in the Digital Britain report with 54 per cent of the station’s national listening now on a digital platform.

Last time the station performed such an event in [link=https://radiotoday.co.uk/news.php?extend.4071]November 2008[/link], it said it was keen to repeat the giveaway in other parts of the country.
