BBC Radio 5 Live has made its first broadcast from the new studios in Salford as part of a phased relocation of the station from London.

Tony Livesey’s late show has moved over from BBC Manchester in the city’s Oxford Road, with other programmes in the line-up moving up from BBC Television Centre over the next couple of months.

The new studio includes video cameras which provide a live stream of the show, with Livesey last night dubbing the feed ‘TonyVision’.

Stephen Nolan’s weekend late show moves into Quay House at MediaCityUK from this Friday, while 5 Live Drive with Peter Allen and Aasmah Mir heads North from 10 October.

Daytime programmes hosted by Victoria Derbyshire, Shelagh Fogarty and Richard Bacon move into the new facilities on 24 October, with Breakfast and the remaining output all due to have joined by 26 November.

It’s understood some programmes – including Danny Baker on Saturday mornings and the 5 Live Film Review with Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode – will continue to be broadcast from London once the station’s move to the North West is complete.

Livesey told the BBC’s in-house magazine Ariel: “It’s a huge landmark for 5live but just another day at the office for me, albeit a much better office.”
