Fun Kids has commissioned Made in Manchester to produce 10 episodes of a new children’s series voiced by Vicky Binns.

The former Emmerdale and Coronation Street actress is playing a character called Suzie Pugh, starting today.

Speaking about her new role Vicky Binns says: “Playing Suzie Pugh is a joy. We have as much fun doing it as children do listening to it.”

Writer, creator and Made in Manchester producer Phil Collinge says: “This is radio for young kids – and they love it! They like using their imaginations and the silly stories and daft noises never fail to amuse them.

Earlier this year Made in Manchester produced 5 Live’s first-ever drama – Don’t Cry For Me, Maradona, starring Tim Healy as Sir Bobby Robson and Denise Welch as Lady Elsie and created Barbara Windsor’s Funny Girls series for BBC Radio 2 with documentaries about Hattie Jacques and Hylda Baker.

MIM Creative Director Ashley Byrne says: “It’s brilliant to launch Suzie via Fun Kids. We hope this is just the start. Indeed we’re already talking to broadcasters abroad. The future looks very bright indeed for Suzie and Smert.”

Matt Deegan, Station Manager of Fun Kids says: “Whether it’s One Direction’s new single, information about the latest toy or listening in on Horrid Henry’s latest adventure, at Fun Kids we’re focused on content that enhances our little listeners’ lives. We’re therefore delighted to welcome Suzie Pugh to the station and are sure it will become a new favourite.”
