Radio Trent building reopens as youth centre

The former home of Nottingham’s Radio Trent has been reopened as a youth centre.

The building on Castle Gate – originally a women’s hospital – housed Radio Trent and Trent FM between 1975 and 2007.

Officially opening today, the derelict building has been refurbished using more than £5m of government funding and now includes a café, fitness suite, dance and recording studios over five floors.

‘NGY myplace’ is aimed teenagers and has been developed by Nottingham City Council as well as the NHS, Nottingham Forest FC and other organisations.

Councillor David Mellen said: “The young people who have worked on developing NGY myplace have made an incredible contribution. They have been there from the start, making sure that Nottingham youth are the heart and soul of the project and that everything about the facility is designed around their needs and aspirations.”

Trent FM moved out of Castle Gate in 2007 and into Nottingham’s Chapel Quarter. Find out more about the new facility in their old home here. Trent was merged with Leicester Sound and Ram FM and rebranded as Capital FM last year.
