Wise Buddah has been commissioned to make a one-off documentary for BBC Radio 1 about Scott Mills’ quest to create a Christmas single.
Originated by Wise Buddah Content and Mills himself, the 60-minute music-led show will follow the presenter as he gathers advice from established singers and songwriters – including Slade’s Noddy Holder and comedian/composer Tim Minchin – and then works with a team of musicians to put together his own Yuletide classic.
The resulting track, called ‘The Perfect Christmas Single’, will get its first airplay on Mills’ Radio 1 show before being made available as a free download on the Radio 1 website.
“This is a 21st century expression of how to make radio really work,” said Wise Buddah Head of Content Simon Willis. “It’s one idea that can be used in traditional daytime programming that enables a documentary and has a legacy across the festive period.”
Music and lyrics for the single are being written by comedy cabaret duo Frisky and Mannish with producers Marc Vickers and Jem Godfrey from Wise Buddah Jingles & Music Imaging. The track is being recorded at Wise Buddah Studios.
Mills added: “I think we have all surprised ourselves with the making of our Christmas single. It was loads of fun and I think it captures the spirit of Christmas. I hope the listeners enjoy it as much as we did.”
Produced by Wise Buddah Content, ‘The Perfect Christmas Song’ was greenlit by Radio 1 and IXtra Commissioning Editor Piers Bradford. It will air on Monday 17 December on BBC Radio 1 as part of the ‘Radio 1 Stories’ strand.
