Lancashire station turns to Kickstarter

A proposed community radio station in Lancashire has launched a “Kickstarter” campaign to being local radio to the Ribble Valley.

Ribble FM is applying for a full-time radio licence in Ofcom’s third round of licensing but is hoping to raise funds via Kickstarter to enhance its online stream with additional local content and cover the licence application fee.

Project co-ordinator and local resident Sophie Greenwood: “This area has never had a full-time radio station dedicated to promoting the amazing events, businesses and culture it has to offer. Ribble FM aims to connect the towns and many villages together and be a radio station everyone can enjoy.

“Having worked in radio for the last 20 years in Lancashire and the North West, I thought it was about time my home area had the benefit of a truly local radio station – and hopefully Ribble FM will become “the valley’s voice” with lots of local news, opinions, music and competitions.”

The station has been working towards a full-time radio station for the area since 2011 after plans by a previous community group, Ribble Valley Radio, failed in 2007.

Ribble FM Project Manager Roy Martin is also Managing Editor of RadioToday.
