Folded Wing, the independent production company behind Radio 2’s Jamie Cullum jazz programme, has won the tender to make a 2-hour underground dance music show for Radio 1 and 1Xtra.
The Monday 0200-0400 slot is presented by Monki – real name Lucy Monkman – who joined BBC Radio 1 earlier this year presenting on the In New DJs We Trust strand. She took over the late night Sunday into Monday morning slot in May. The show, simulcast on Radio 1 and 1Xtra, plays dance music genres from house to grime.
Karen Pearson, CEO and founder of Folded Wing, told RadioToday: “At Folded Wing, we’re all huge fans of the show and she’s the most exciting new DJ I’ve heard on radio in a very long time. We are experts in developing and nurturing new talent, and we’re excited to help Monki grow as a broadcaster and become one of the key members of the BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra family.”
Folded Wing takes over producing the show from Monday 2nd December.
