Ofcom has awarded two new community radio licences – one in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and another in Ashington in Northumberland.
Ofcom has also rejected two applications in this round – they are Radio Northumberland and Synergy – both based in Bedlington.
The new station in Barrow will be called Candofm, a community radio service for Barrow-in-Furness and the surrounding area, aimed at 16-40 year olds.
Ashington’s new service Koast Radio will provide a community radio service for the town of Ashington and surrounding villages in south east Northumberland.
Both licences are awarded for a five-year period.
