Fire Radio owner Triple Broadcast has sold its Bournemouth FM licence to Celador, but will invest in new digital stations and content.
Ofcom has approved the changes, first reported by RadioToday on Monday. The Bournemouth FM station will continue to operate under the Fire Radio name, with Celador Radio taking over the licence today, Tuesday 8th July 2014.
Triple is launching a DAB multiplex for Somerset in a joint venture with Muxco, which is expected to commence broadcasting in September.
The company says the changes will allow audience and revenue growth on whatever platform is used by the audience. Triple’s Executive Director Gareth Cottier-Jansen said: “We’ve had the Fire Radio station for 5 years and are incredibly proud of our achievements.
“Sometimes you have to make bold choices to stop doing things the same way. We’ve had 67% increase in brand audience reach, revenue up 6% 2013 and 25% in first half 2014 is a great creative and business result. It’s time to follow the audience onto many different devices and platforms and ensure continued success and growth.”
Triple tells us they have committed around £250,000 in funding across the group to roll out the digital radio brands and build on its TV business content. The company will ramp up original programme production and multiplatform content for online and mobile apps, whilst retaining the use of the Fire brand name.
Gareth added: “I am very grateful to our talent past and present, fulltime and specialist, who have been part of the Triple family for the last 5 years; I look forward to working with many again on radio and TV projects and wish everyone well.”
