Jonathan Ross hosted his first show in over four years on BBC Radio 2 today, and was mostly welcomed back to the network by listeners.
Wossy opened the show, covering for Steve Wright from 2pm and staying live till 5, saying nobody was more surprised than he was to be back at the station.
Looking at social media, most of the comments were positive, with even a few current and ex-BBC colleagues tuning in. “Good to hear @wossy back @BBCRadio2 today” tweeted Jeremy Vine.
Chris Moyles joked: “Never heard of him before, but I’m enjoying this new DJ @wossy on Radio 2 today”
Listener Dave Jones from Wales said: “It’s about time he was back on the Radio full-time. Tell the Daily Mail moaners to do one.”
Not everyone was happy though, as BBC Radio Devon presenter Gordon Sparks told Ariel: “What a disgrace it is that Jonathan Ross is to return to Radio 2, albeit as a stand-in. Following Sachsgate six years ago, it is my opinion that neither he nor Russell Brand should have received any further remuneration from the BBC.
“The BBC used to be the bearer of standards in the broadcasting industry. One can only imagine the fuss that would be made if somebody at local level broke so many broadcasting regulations. They certainly wouldn’t be currently employed.”
Likewise, some of the comments on Facebook appeared to be the opposite of Twitter, with comments such as “Very disappointed BBC. Shame you have such a short memory”, “Who is the half wit that let this idiot back inside the BBC” and the killer: “Switched to radio Cumbria!”
Jonathan is covering all this week 2-5pm on BBC Radio 2.
