Presenter Suzie McGuire is leaving Clyde 1 after 30 years of working for the group, to “explore new avenues”.

Suzie McGuire said: “It’s not often you start work at the age of 16 and are still broadcasting with the same company all these years later. Being part of Radio Clyde has been both an honour and a privilege. It’s been a wonderful place to work and the friends and colleagues I have met across Ayrshire, Glasgow and the West, and of course my lovely listeners, mean the world to me.

“It’s with a heavy heart I feel the time has come to say farewell but not goodbye. It is time for me to step out of my comfort zone and explore new avenues and rise to new challenges.

Local newspapers are pointing out the exit is just weeks before her husband stands trial for alleged domestic abuse offences. Suzie’s estranged husband Derek Mitchell is facing 19 charges including throttling and biting.

Brian Paige, Regional Content Director, Bauer Place Scotland said: “Suzie has made an enormous contribution in her 30 years at Westsound and Radio Clyde. We wish her the very best for the future”.

Suzie added: “At the moment I am filming a documentary and about to embark on a trek of the Namibian desert to raise awareness of cervical cancer. This was too good an opportunity to miss out on.”

Grant Thomson is now listed as host of the afternoon drivetime show.
