The Isle of Man’s third station 3FM is celebrating 10-years on-air.
The station marked the occasion on the 17th October with a party and by giving away thousands of pounds worth of prizes in 10-hours over the course of the day, including a £500 designer clothing voucher and a GoPro Hero 3.
A decade ago, a government report highlighted that a third station would enhance the Island’s broadcast map – a consortium was formed and it applied for the licence. Current directors Ron Berry and George Ferguson were at the heart those plans and the license was granted. 3FM was born in 2004 to serve a target market between the youth station of Energy FM and public service broadcaster, Manx Radio.
Ron Berry is the Managing Director, he said the time has flown by: “It seems like only yesterday that we opened the mic for the first time and said “this is 3FM; your music station for the Isle of Man.”
He added: “The last ten years has been an incredible journey and our success is totally down to the staff, past and present, the advertisers – to whom we are most grateful for their support – and of course, the listeners, who keep on supporting the station in their thousands. We owe all of them a huge thank you and we look forward to continuing to grow together over the next ten years.”
The station is giving away £10,000 to five charities, the names of which will be made public on the 27th October.
Manx Radio recently celebrated 50 years on-air.
