BBC Radio Manchester’s breakfast show presenter Alan Beswick is moving to a new networked late show on Radio Manchester and Radio Lancashire.

The move puts him back on-air with a Late Night Phone-In in Lancashire, a slot he was famous for in the 1980s on Red Rose Radio.

Meanwhile Alison Butterworth, who hosts the late show at the moment, and Phil Trow, will be taking over the Breakfast show on.

Alison said: “After nearly 30 years working on the editorial and production side of radio, the opportunity to present the breakfast show in the UK’s best city is an absolute treat. If I can wake up Manchester and make the audience smile whilst delivering the news, then I consider that a great way to start my 50s.”

Fellow presenter Phil Trow started at BBC Radio Manchester in 1990 and was on air during the Manchester bombing in 1996. No stranger to early mornings Phil presented the stations first breakfast show of the new millennium, and spent three years presenting breakfast at BBC Radio Derby, before returning to Manchester two years ago to present Drive-time.

Phil said: “It’s taken me a quarter of a century but I’m delighted to get the chance to wake up my home city. I can’t wait to work with Alison and present a programme which I know the audience will really enjoy.”

Allan Beswick will be on-air Monday to Thursday 10pm till 1am. Allan said: “It’s going to be quite a ride….since my last phone in there’s been an explosion of social media, so even more ways for listeners to tell me what they think …and you can be sure I’ll do the same.”

Kate Squire, Managing Editor of BBC Radio Manchester added: “I know Alison and Phil will be a brilliant combination and will put a smile on the listeners face each morning ensuring they know everything about life in Greater Manchester. I have no doubt Allan will present an absolutely must listen to show as he gets to grips with what people really want to talk about and gives his own unique spin on life…..our listeners are in for a treat.”

John Clayton, Editor of BBC Radio Lancashire commented: “Ali has been a big part of the Radio Lancashire family for many years and we are certainly going to miss that raucous laugh of hers bouncing round the office, but I’m sure she will go down a storm at breakfast in Manchester.

“Lancashire is where Allan Beswick forged his reputation as a straight-talking phone-in host and became a late-night legend. It’s great to welcome him back to his radio roots.”
