Independent production firm Somethin’ Else leads this year’s nominations for the Radio Production Awards, with seven entries shortlisted.
But the hotly contended Indie of the Year at the awards later this month will be between Folded Wing, Prison Radio Association Productions, TBI Media, USP Content and Whistledown Productions.
As well as independent producers, there are nominations for groups including Global, Bauer and UTV as well as BBC network and local radio, and community radio.
BBC Radio 4 has six nominations, while Bauer also has six and Global has three. Community radio is represented in the nominations by Swindon 105.5, Resonance FM and Radio Reverb.
The winners will be revealed for the fifth annual Radio Production Awards on 25th November at the Hippodrome in London’s Leicester Square, with BBC 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne hosting the event. Lauren said: “I’m thrilled to be hosting the Radio Production Awards. As a broadcaster, I’m constantly aware of the key role production plays in radio. The producer is vital in making a show a success, so it’s fantastic that these Awards are recognising and celebrating the people who work behind the scenes, making it happen.”
Will Jackson, Managing Director of the Radio Independents Group, added: “The exceptional quality and range of this year’s nominees clearly show that it’s been another amazing year for audio production. The Radio Independents Group and the Radio Academy together are proud to be recognising the achievement of individual producers and production companies from across the UK, in what should be a fantastic awards ceremony with a great new host.”
