Preston FM suspends live broadcasting

There’s trouble at another community radio station this weekend as Lancashire based Preston FM ‘takes a break’ from regular broadcasting.

The move, which is only usually possible with prior Ofcom approval, means the station is not sticking to its Key Commitments of providing live, locally relevant content each day.

A message on the station’s Twitter account points to this message on Facebook:

“We’re sorry we’ve taken a break from our regular broadcasting. This has been necessary to allow Preston FM Ltd to take part in discussions and negotiations regarding the future of community radio in Preston and South Ribble. We hope you can understand that the we, the volunteers of Preston FM, cannot make any further comments without potentially jeopardizing these negotiations.

“Preston FM Ltd will issue a statement in due course and we look forward to getting back on air as soon as we can.”

A Facebook update from the station on New Year’s Eve reads: “We’ve had a great 2014 and have some great plans for 2015, but YOU and your thoughts are important too!”
