Premier Christian Radio will stay on national digital radio for at least another 12 years after a new contract was signed with Arqiva.

The two companies have been through a public ordeal after Premier Christian Radio launched a campaign to save itself from leaving the multiplex once its lease ended. It was reported Arqiva wanted to use Premier’s space for a pop music service (Heart Extra) by Global.

Peter Kerridge, CEO of Premier Christian Radio, said: “On behalf of our nationwide audience and army of supporters, we are naturally delighted to secure our continued presence on Digital One in this, our 20th anniversary year. We are very much aware, from the hundreds of testimonials we receive from listeners, just how important Premier’s round-the-clock voice is to so many people.”

Premier Christian Radio is listed on both line-ups of of D2 applications – and will move to the new multiplex once it launches regardless of who wins it, suggesting this new deal with Arqiva is for around 12 months before a new 12 year contract with the winner of D2 starts.

Steve Holebrook, Managing Director of Terrestrial Broadcast at Arqiva, said: “We have worked with Premier Christian Radio ever since they launched on national digital radio in 2009 and we’re pleased to have reached a new agreement with them to remain a national station on D1.”

Premier Christian Radio broadcasts on 1305, 1332, 1431, 1566 MW in London and nationally on DAB and Freeview 725. The station is currently raising money on-air from listeners in order to pay for the new contract.
