Peter Kay’s new Car Share comedy series on BBC 1 has a fictional radio station at the heart of the television show.

The made-up radio station, Forever FM, is listened to by Peter Kay and his co-star and car sharer Sian Gibson on their way to and from work each day. The entire radio station is specially recorded for the TV show, and features presenters including Rob Charles, Martin Emery, Debbie Ousbey and Alex Brooke. Other voices heard include voice-over Eleanor Hamilton.

It highlights common features heard on radio stations across the UK, including the tea-time teaser, the golden hour and adverts for sheds and colleges. DJ Mike & his morning Muesli, voiced by Rob Charles – now breakfast presenter on The Bee – also plays a competition called ‘who’s in the toaster’. There’s also a point in episode three which gives a subtle nod to a particular incident on BBC Radio Stoke from 2013.

The radio was put together by MediaCityUK based production company Kalua and includes specially made jingles and sweepers. It’s on BBC iPlayer till tomorrow night and starts on BBC One this Wednesday.

Peter Kay has a history of promoting fictional radio stations after he featured and promoted ‘Chorley FM’ in previous television shows.
