Independent production company Shooting Shark says it has won the contract to make 5 live’s football phone-in 606 from next season, ending the programme’s 8 year association with Somethin’ Else.

606 airs on Saturday and Sunday evenings and has existed since the days of Radio 5 when it was hosted by Danny Baker and then David Mellor. Somethin’ Else has produced the show since 2009. before that, Campbell Davison Media made the programme for six years from 2003.

Shooting Shark Productions says the current presenting line-up of Robbie Savage and Darren Fletcher (Saturdays) and Ian Wright and Kelly Cates (Sundays) will remain in place for the new series, which begins on 8th August and runs for 80 episodes throughout the season.

Shooting Shark’s Head of Programming Simon Crosse has been the writer and producer of 5 live’s Fighting Talk for the last 12 years, and was the launch producer for a year on Colin Murray’s daytime show on talkSPORT. He previously spent 8 years as Director of Programmes at USP Content, winning contracts to make 5 live’s Formula 1 and NFL coverage and Absolute Radio’s Premier League football commentary. Before USP, Simon was a presenter, commentator, reporter and producer for BBC Sport and BBC GLR.

Shooting Shark has been active since 2013 and has had a number of radio and TV commissions. In radio it has been one-offs up until now, mostly outside broadcasts from sports events such as Darts and American Football. The indie also made The World Cup Awards show for 5 live last summer. The 606 contract is the production company’s first major series commission.
