Football fan Kevin Clarke will broadcast live on talkSPORT on the final day of the Premier League season this weekend after winning the station’s competition to be The People’s Pundit.
The contest, in partnership with Carlsberg, has been running since January to find a football fan to ‘step up from the pub or sofa to the world’s biggest sports radio station’. Entrants had to film and submit a video of themselves – either online or in a touring van that went to Premier League stadiums. Kevin entered via YouTube and then took part in a Boot Camp of five finalists at Wembley before completing a series of challenges on air on talkSPORT.
The Liverpool fan, who has a season ticket at Brighton & Hove Albion, says it will fulfill a lifelong ambition of his: “It’s been an incredible journey from a one minute clip on YouTube to winning the competition and being on air for the last game of the season. It feels amazing. If there’s one thing this process has taught me it’s the important of preparation. I shall be swotting up this week on Liverpool and Stoke players and tactics before the weekend but it will all be worth it to be at the game!”
Sky Sports TV presenter Jeff Stelling, who was involved in the selection process, said: “Although the standard of entries was incredibly high, there was only one winner. The purpose of the Carlsberg Fan Squad is to make football better for fans and The People’s Pundit has certainly delivered that for Kevin, I can’t wait to hear him on talkSPORT, I just hope he decides to stick to radio!”
talkSPORT’s Ray Parlour and Mark Saggers were also among the judges.
