BBC Radio 2 is to broadcast ten Sounds of the Fifties programmes hosted by Leo Green.

Leo says: “I’m incredibly excited and honored to be hosting Sounds of the Fifties on Radio 2. It is the decade that featured so many of the original icons and legends, and I’m really looking forward to sharing the best music and the stories from the most exciting decade in musical history!”

Producer Terry Carter says: “Leo says he will present some of the best music ever recorded by the greatest voices and gives us the background stories of the songs, the performers and the writers. We’ll also see how the singers, musicians and songwriters who defined the decade, continue to influence our world today as Leo talks to Rebecca Ferguson, Gregory Porter, Petula Clark and Van Morrison and others during the series.

“The 50s saw the birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll which gave us Bill Hayley, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and of course, Elvis. The newly formed pop charts were full of the likes of Cliff Richard, Doris Day, Johnny Ray, Neil Sedaka, Dean Martin, Rosemary Clooney and Frankie Laine.”

The programmes run at an hour each, starting June 8th at 10pm.
