BBC Radio Cymru will ask National Eisteddfod visitors to vote for their favourite Welsh song of 2015.
It’s part of a live outside broadcast event at #40MAWR – Siart Fawr yr Haf – to be broadcast on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31.
The big vote is one of the main activities for visitors to Radio Cymru’s stand on the Eisteddfod field in Meifod.
Last year at Llanelli over 1,500 votes were cast for hundreds of different songs, when Dafydd Iwan’s Yma o Hyd came top in the Scarlets’ home town.
Dafydd Iwan will be performing the song and a few other favourites on the stand on Tuesday, August 4, at 1.30pm.
Dafydd said: “I was delighted to see Yma o Hyd topping the chart last year – and also that a mix of old and new songs were chosen by the Eisteddfod-goers in Llanelli. I’m looking forward to see which songs make it into the chart this year.”
Betsan Powys, Editor of BBC Radio Cymru, said: “We’ll be busy all week with broadcasts from the Eisteddfod of course, but it’s also a great opportunity for us to meet thousands of our listeners. The programme revealing last year’s chart of favourite Welsh songs was very successful – the most popular programme all year for people ‘listening again’ online. There was a great selection of songs and it will be fascinating to see how different the listeners’ choices are this year.”
