Chorley FM requests change to key commitments

Chorley FM has submitted another request to Ofcom for a change to its key commitments.

These include changes to the communities they serve, the character of service, programming and social gain objectives. This comes after they previously asked to make changes last January, but were turned down by Ofcom following a consultation.

The new request published as a consultation today wants to change the target audience from the young people and LBGT community of Chorley. Instead, they wish to broaden to target the population of the area, but to include specific content for younger people and the LBGT community.

Daytime music would become more commercial with programming for diverse musical tastes, younger people and minority groups broadcast in the evening output. Speech during daytime programming would be reduced from 25% to 20% and may include recorded content.

For the social gain objectives, they want to broaden to serve the whole community, which will include youth and LBGT groups. Open board meetings would move from bi-monthly to quarterly and there would no longer be an independent community panel to monitor the station.

The closing date for the consultation is 13th October, 2015.
