Celador’s most recent purchase Fire Radio has been removed from DAB in Bournemouth.

Fire Radio’s contract with Now Digital ended on October 31 at midnight and has not been renewed at the request of the station. Fire Radio was previously removed from the South Hampshire multiplex last October.

Ofcom has to agree any changes to DAB multiplexes, and did so saying the variation would not unacceptably narrow the range of programmes available by way of local digital sound programme services to persons living in the area or locality for which the licensed multiplex service is provided.

Fire Radio on DAB was a simulcast of its FM transmitter, which covers with Bournemouth and Poole area with a music-led service primarily targetting 15-34 year-olds, with appropriate speech content to appeal to young local listeners.

The station plays ‘rhythmic contemporary’ music featuring dance, soul and related contemporary genres. It was purchased by Celador in July 2014 and moved from Bournemouth centre to Southampton.
