The first inductee into the Arqiva Hall of Fame honours list for this year is Absolute Radio’s Frank Skinner.
He’ll be awarded along with three other radio folk, yet to be announced, at the Arqiva Hall of Fame Lunch in Birmingham on December 10th.
Frank said: “When I heard I was to become a Hall of Famer, I felt properly proud. Does this mean I’ll finally get my publicity postcard in the reception area? The one with me looking preoccupied, in headphones. My ‘Mr Radio’ jingle suddenly seems much less ironic.”
Frank Skinner’s Absolute Radio show won Best Speech Programme at the 2014 Radio Academy Awards and Best Entertainment Programme in 2011. The podcast of his show receives five million downloads each year and in 2014 Frank also hosted a brand-new comedy panel show; The Rest is History for BBC Radio 4, which will return for a second series in 2016.
Roger Cutsforth, Managing Director of The Radio Academy, said: “Frank is just so good at so many things – comedian, actor, writer, and television and radio presenter. I am delighted we have this opportunity to honour his outstanding work for British radio. The Arqiva Radio Academy Hall of Fame Lunch is a wonderful event where we celebrate those who make UK radio so special and Frank is one of those rare talents that does just that.”
The Arqiva Radio Academy Hall of Fame Lunch takes place on Thursday 10th December at The Vox Centre, Resorts World, NEC, Birmingham. For more information on tickets please go to radioacademy.org
