Changes at BBC Radio Cymru include a weekday new morning show at 5.30am with John Hardy and changes at the weekends.

On weekdays, Post Cyntaf follows John Hardy at 7am with 90 minutes of the day’s news, presented by Dylan Jones, Kate Crockett and Gwenllian Grigg.

Aled Hughes welcomes Wales at 8.30am with his new programme, offering a mix of music and chat. Bore Cothi and the daytime programmes follow as usual, then in the evenings, at 7pm every day, there are new programmes, and new slots for some established shows.

  • Recordiau Rhys Mwyn – a new programme, every Monday with Rhys Mwyn, the lead singer from Yr Anhrefn.
  • Sesiwn Georgia Ruth – a new slot every Tuesday with Georgia Ruth including folk and world music.
  • Lisa Gwilym yn cyflwyno – the new music from Wales in one place every Wednesday. Sessions, conversations and every genre of live music.
  • Byd Huw Stephens is on every Thursday and Penwythnos Geth a Ger starts the weekend each Friday.

Meanwhile at the weekends:

Tudur Owen has a new slot, Saturday morning at 9 o’clock followed by Ifan Evans at 11. Two of the weekend’s popular programmes – Richard Rees and Cofio – celebrate their 10th anniversary. They will both move to Sunday, as part of Radio Cymru’s laid-back Sundays.

Here are some of the other changes:

  • Richard Rees – Music from the 60s, 70s and 80s with Richard, Sunday morning at 10 o’clock.
  • Yr Oedfa – The Sunday Service will start at the earlier time of 11.30am.
  • Beti a’i Phobol – Beti George interviews some of Wales’s characters at midday.
  • Cofio – John Hardy takes a trip down memory lane in a new slot every Sunday at 1 o’clock.
  • Hywel Gwynfryn – An opportunity to spend the afternoon in the company of Hywel Gwynfryn at 2 o’clock with a mix of greetings and music.

Betsan Powys, Editor of Radio Cymru says: “These changes will give our listeners an opportunity to enjoy more of what they like and value on Radio Cymru.

“It’s always been my intention, from the start, to open Radio Cymru’s doors every morning with a live programme. John’s programme will give us a chance, in an extremely busy year for politics and sports, to bring Post Cyntaf on air at 7 o’clock.

“Then at 7am, Dylan, Kate and Gwenllian Grigg will provide the best journalistic content. With Dylan concentrating on the big stories coming our way this year, Aled Hughes will host an hour-and-a-half of music and chat until 10am. He’s looking forward to putting his own stamp on the mornings.

On Monday nights, it’s fantastic to be able to introduce Rhys Mwyn to the fold. We all know what we’re going to get with Rhys – interesting music, a strong opinion and plenty to think about. His programmes are certainly going to make some noise.”
