There’s a new weekly show on BBC Radio 1 starting soon presented by different student radio stations from across the UK, replacing Dan and Phil’s slot.
Rhys Hughes, Head of Programmes, Radio 1 and 1Xtra, made the announcement at the Student Radio Conference, revealing that the weekly playlist based shows will feature an hour-long mix of themed music that will reflect students lives.
Radio 1’s Student Radio Playlist will take place Monday evenings from 9 to 10pm and will form part of the station’s schedule for 12 weeks from May 2016, being available for download via the BBC iPlayer Radio app.
Member stations of the UK Student Radio Association will be able to submit their proposed playlist via the Radio 1 website, with the final twelve being chosen for Radio 1 airplay by a panel consisting of Radio 1’s Head of Programmes and Radio 1 Editors.
The student radio curated shows will replace Radio 1’s Internet Takeover in the station’s schedule. Dan and Phil, who host the Internet Takeover on the first Monday of every month, will remain a part of the Radio 1 family the station says
Rhys Hughes, Head of Programmes, Radio 1 and 1Xtra said: “I’ve been increasingly impressed over the last few years with the quality of student radio content and I’m delighted that Radio 1 can offer the opportunity for 12 student radio stations to showcase the best of their curatorial and mixing talent with these themed playlist programmes.”
Well @BBCR1 have just dropped something BIG at #SRACon and we're excited. ???
