BBC Radio 1 presenter Matt Edmondson is taking over from Kiss breakfast’s Melvin Odoom (and Rochelle Humes) on television show The Xtra Factor.
The Xtra Factor, when it starts in autumn, will also be live this season after each edition of The X Factor on ITV.
Matt has hosted weekend breakfast on BBC Radio 1 for the last five years, and is already a regular on TV.
Speaking about joining the show Matt joked, “I am unbelievably excited about joining The Xtra Factor this year, not least of all because on my first day Louis Walsh walked into my dressing room topless, unannounced. I regard this as the definition of ‘living the dream’”.
Matt is currently filming behind the scenes during the judge auditions.
Siobhan Greene, Head of Entertainment, ITV, says, “Matt will bring his unique take on all things X Factor and we can’t wait for him to start work on the Xtra Factor this year”.
Nigel Hall, Global Head of Television, Syco says: “Matt is the perfect Xtra Factor host; he brings with him a cheeky and warm humour, not to mention being an accomplished presenter on radio and television. He will bring plenty of fun to what will be an entirely new Xtra Factor.”
Richard Holloway, Managing Director, Thames TV and acting CEO, FremantleMedia UK adds, “Matt is a very funny guy and his irreverent, humorous take on the world, along with our new live format, is set to make for a great series of Xtra Factor.”
