[liveblog]Sun FM has given away its latest prize – a £3k cruise around the Caribbean – to a local woman and her husband.
The UKRD station teamed up with local travel agents Hays Travel to play a game on the radio called ‘Passports to Pass Ports’ ending with a live final in the Galleries Shopping Centre, Washington, last Saturday lunch time.
Thousands of people registered to play on the run-up with 20 finalists chosen at random to receive a phone call from Sun FM’s studios. If the first words said were “Nobody offers you more” (Hays Travel’s catchphrase) they were invited to the grand finale, if they said anything else, including “hello” they didn’t qualify.
At the live final, which was streamed live on the web, all the finalists were asked to pick a special Sun FM Passport, only one contained a stamp from the captain inviting them aboard in November, with flights from Newcastle Airport for the 2 week fully inclusive cruise.
When called upon, they all opened their passport and Mrs Jackie Taylor had chosen the correct Passport. She said “I can’t believe it, I really can’t. Nobody will believe it. I never in my life believed I would ever go to the Caribbean. The last holiday I had was to Benidorm.”
Programme Director, Simon Grundy, said “I’m so pleased for Jackie and her husband. We pride ourselves on our local content and prizes which are free to enter and exclusively for our local listeners. I hope she sends us a postcard from one of the ports she stops at. The ship looks amazing too.”
